NSW Police is asking Bega Valley Shire Council to ignore a bill for just under $1.1 million associated with construction of the new Bega Police Station.

The debt is for use of public land while the delayed HQ was erected on Auckland Street during which the first builder went bust.

Councillors will be asked at today’s meeting to endorse one of three options before putting it out to the community for public comment.

Staff have recommended waiving the lot due to the significant benefit the new police station provides the Bega Valley community.

That’s not the only debt councillors are being asked to waive today.

A second one for just under $145,000 from the former version of REX Airlines for user charges at the council owned and operated Merimbula Airport also expected to bite the dust.
