Moruya business operators have condemned Eurobodalla Shire Council over the use of so-called inaccurate data in the town’s new flood study.
The council accused for decades of inflating historical flood levels, which could prompt a ban on all new accommodation proposals for the CBD.
Many local seething because the data used by Eurobodalla Shire Council from historic floods has been challenged as dead wrong for decades.

Newsagency owner and Moruya Business Chamber President Rob Pollack has shown has a piece of timber from his shop in the main street with clear water marks from historic floods going back to the 1920’s.
He said that mark is one metre lower than the 5.1 metre height used by the council.
“If you look on this post here today it’s 4.1 this particular post.

“There are different obviously marks across the shire that we’ve seen documented and basically that’s within a couple of hundred mills within the 4.1 metre flood level.”

Mr Pollack said the council’s stance will effectively make the town into a time capsule.
“We are struggling to get new accommodation for the new Moruya Hospital and without accommodation within our town centre where will people visit their sick relatives and the town will eventually die,” he said.
“We’ll be fighting hard against this.”
