Eurobodalla race car driver Maisie Place is planning a big year ahead on the track.

The Moruya mechanic is undertaking final preparations for the Mazda RX8 Cup season, which kicks off next month at the same time.

She’s also been building a new car for the Bathurst 6 hour event on the Easter Long Weekend.

Maisie said her first aim is to finish every race this year.

“Last season was very crazy. I had my first Did Not Finish (DNF) in five years, which was so heartbreaking,” Maisie said.

“I probably could have still finished the race but after seven years of racing in the RX8 Cup I blew my first gearbox,” she said.

“I finished eighth in the Championship, which I feel it would have been seventh if I didn’t do that so I have been hard on myself ever since then.

The start of the 2026 Mazda RX8 racing series is just a few weeks away at Phillip Island. Driving down there is something she really looks forward too.

“It is one of the best race tracks in the world. I’ll say that right now,” she said.

“You come down the straight at 200 kilometres per hour and you’re looking over a cliff edge at the ocean. It’s incredible.

“We then have two rounds in Sydney, go back down to Victoria to Winton, then finish with two in Goulburn.”
