A temporary post office will open in Narooma today (Monday April 22) at 112 Wagonga Street, a few doors down from the closed post office.

The community has been forced to travel to Tilba, Bodalla or Moruya to access postal services, since the Narooma Post Office abruptly closed on February 5 due to the discovery of a lead contaminant in the back of the building.

An Australia Post Spokesperson told ARN in addition to postal services, the temporary site at the old National Australia Bank building, will also provide all of the banking and financial services of a regular post office including Bank@Post, Identity and Passport services.

For existing PO Box holders, there will be no change to your PO Box number or address, however you will need to collect your mail over the counter from the Post Office during business hours (photo identification will be required upon collection). Post Office services from the Narooma Delivery Centre ceased on Friday April 19.

The temporary Narooma Post Office will operate between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

There is still no timeframe on the re-opening of the original post office which is undergoing extensive remediation works.

“It is undergoing a mini refurbishment as well as remediation works to make it safe for our customers and team members and we are continuing to undertake this work so it can re-open as soon as possible,” An Australia Post Spokesperson said.

Australia Post has thanked the Narooma community for their patience in getting the temporary site open and operating and apologised for the inconvenience. They recommend any queries be directed to the Australia Post Customer Contact Centre on 13 13 18.
