“We came to this very difficult decision after work was underway to begin organising next year’s event,” a spokesperson said in a statement on the Tathra Wharf to Waves Facebook page.

“The Wharf to Waves has always been an ambitious undertaking for a small community and we are working to face the challenges of sustaining an event of this scale into the future.

“But we could not overcome some of these challenges in the time frame required for the 2024 event.”

Restoration works are being carried out on the Tathra Wharf and are likely to continue into 2024.

The project is aiming to restore the wharf piles, girders, decking and building in accordance with heritage requirements, to improve safety and accessibility while preserving the important community, economic and heritage asset.
