South Coast work up a sweat for a good cause

Surf Clubs from Pambula, Bermagu and Tathra got involved with rowers working hard from midday on Saturday until midday on Sunday to raise funds and awareness for suicide prevention and mental health.

Almost $300,000 has been raised across the country with Pambula Surf LifeSaving Club raising over $5,500, Bermagui Surf LifeSaving Club bringing in just over $5,400, and Tathra Surf Club raising just over $1,800.

Kirsty Byrne from the Pambula Surf LifeSaving Club, said it was a hugely successful event.

“Oh it was fantastic, and exceeded last year’s expectations,” Ms bBrne said.

“We rode 819km’s in total so a fantastic effort by everyone involved,” she said.

Ms Byrne said it was great to see so much community involvement this year.

“We had a lot of community groups respond this year,” she said.

“We had crews from the EPIC in Pambula, Merimbula Water Dragons, the Wanderer Festival Committee, Sapphire Coast Boardriders, the Seaside Health Club.

“We also had (Bega Valley Shire Mayor) Russell Fitzpatrick come along and do 7kms and then (Member for Eden Monaro) Kristy McBain finsihed off with our finale.”

“Thanks to everyone for coming, epsecially all of our rowers and we look forward to running it again next year.”
