After visiting Ulladulla earlier this week, the Rotary Men’s Health Education Rural Van (Mherv) will be visiting Batemans Bay, Moruya, Bombala and Cooma to provide free basic health checks for men and women in each area.
The van will be located in the northern car park of Club Catalina on Beach Road, Batemans Bay on Wednesday (May 3) and Thursday (May 4) and will be open from 9:30am to 3:30pm on both days.
The van will then head to Moruya – stopping at Moruya Mowers & Pumps 17-19 Church Street on Friday (May 5) and the Moruya Markets, Riverside Park Church Street, on Saturday (May 6).
After Moruya, the van will head south to Bombala, stopping at the Bombala Hospital – old carpark on Wellington Street on Tuesday (May 9) then onto Centennial Park on Sharp Street, Cooma on Wednesday (May 10) and Thursday (May 11).
Assessments will be provided by a Registered Nurse, who travels with the van around New South Wales.
Each individual will have their blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar level checked.
Rotary estimates that over the last five years, 450 lives have been saved because of Mherv free basic health checks.
The Mherv van sees around 3,500 patients each year and more than a few have previously undetected conditions. On average, around 40% require a follow up by a general practitioner.
The Mens Health Education Rural Van (Mherv) is an initiative of Rotary in New South Wales and was originally set-up to focus on issues relating to men’s health. However, both men and women are most welcome to attend a free assessment at Mherv.
Locals are being urged to give up 10 minutes to get this basic health screen.
Rotary acknowledges the support of the Royal Freemasons Benevolent Institution (RFBI) and Electrodry in making this free service available to the public.
No appointments are necessary for the free health assessments.
