The Australian Government has partnered with the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) to fund a number of local projects in the Gilmore and Eden Monaro electorates under the first round of the Strengthening and Rebuilding Regional Communities program.
For the first time, the grant recipients have been divided into three streams: the Small & Vital stream, 2019/20 Black Summer bushfire recovery stream and a new Rebuilding Regional Communities stream, which focuses on recovery from the pandemic.
Local projects on the South Coast include:
$25,000 for the Mallacoota & Genoa Broadcasting Association to Grow community broadcasting in the Mallacoota area by purchasing audio technical equipment for a mobile broadcasting unit.
$22,627 for the Bega Local Aboriginal Land Council to Support social connection for isolated Aboriginal elders.
$17,000 for Creative Spaces for Trust and Healing at the Braidwood Life Centre.
$7,664 for ‘Rally for Recovery’ in Tomakin to help manage donations after the bushfires.
$2,550 for the Scouts Association to host a weekly morning tea in Ulladulla.
The Australian Government has committed $5 million from 2022 to 2024 to the RRC stream, which will be distributed by FRRR, for community-led initiatives to support the recovery of remote and regional communities.
Member for Gilmore,Fiona Phillips MP, said she is delighted to see organisations on the South Coast receive support for local recovery efforts.
“Local people still have a long way to go in our recovery and we know from experience what a difference these community-led programs make,” Ms Phillips said.
“Strengthening our resilience and improving health and wellbeing needs to be the focus – and I am really pleased to see this funding flow through to local organisations thanks to the Australian Government,” she said.
“I will keep working with local organisations to ensure our community receives the support we need.”
