A man has been ordered to undertake 200 hours of community service, fined $2000 and place on a one year Community Corrections Order after being convicted of attacking another man.
A 22-year-old Damon McFarlane appeared before Batemans Bay Local Court charged with assault occassioning actual body harm and stealing.
His lawyer told the court the assault was “completely opportunistic” with no pre-planning.
He told the court McFarlane reacted after seeing the victim in public who he believed had mistreated his sister, who he was very protective of.
In sentencing Judge Doug Dick told McFarlane his behaviour had been “absolutely terrible and that his punishment will get the message across.”
