January 16, 2023 12:22 pm in by

Bega Valley Council said “To meet the rising costs of delivering services and maintaining and renewing our community assets, Council is considering applying for a permanent Special Rate Variation (SRV).”

Bega Valley residents have been consulted on councillors recommendation to increase rates by 90 per cent from July, that’s option one.

The second option is for a 45 per cent rise this year, and a 37.2 per cent variation next year.

Option three is for a 43 per cent Special Rate Variation, as well as a reduction in council services, while the last option is that no rate variation is requested at all as well as a large reduction in council services

Feedback closed 11.45pm tonight (Monday 16 January).

Council’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Iliada Bolton said council will review more than 2000 online responses as well as over 140 written submissions from the community before the next steps.

A report will be sent to council on the 1st of February and if council supports an SRV they will submit an application to iPart on the 3rd of February, who will then undertake their assessment.

Ipart also conduct their own community consultation meaning anyone in the community who missed out on providing feedback still has a chance to do so.
