Fire destroys home in Surf Beach

Emergency Services attended a house fire in the Batemans Bay area around 1.10pm on Sunday (January 22).

Large volumes of smoke and flames were seen issuing through the roof of the single level home at Newth Place, Surf Beach.

Fire crews in breathing apparatus got to work to extinguish the blaze.

Through a combined effort between Surf Beach and Malua Bay Rural Fire Brigades, Batemans Bay RFS, Batemans Bay and Moruya Fire and Rescue Crews, NSW Ambulance and South Coast Police, the fire was quickly brought under control.

Fire crews spent several hours ensuring hot spots were extinguished before departing the scene.

NSW Ambulance paramedics assessed three people at the scene, with one elderly resident taken to Bateman’s Bay District Hospital for further treatment.

The property suffered extensive damage.

“A large debrief was held post incident to ensure we continue to work well together at any incidents in the future,” a spokesperson from Batemans Bay Fire and Rescue said.
