More than 20 volunteers of the NSW Rural Fire Service Far South Coast District have been awarded the National Emergency Medal at a special ceremony held on Saturday (November 26) to coincide with the official re-opening of Bemboka Fire Station.
Minister for Emergency Services and Resilience Steph Cooke said the Bemboka Brigade’s headquarters have been extended to include new amenities and a new parking area.
“This upgrade for the Bemboka Brigade will support its volunteers in their life-saving work across Far South Coast communities,” Ms Cooke said.
“RFS members of the Far South Coast District played an integral part in the firefighting response during the devastating 2019-20 bush fire season. Many personnel were dispatched to assist with the firefighting efforts across the State as well as bravely fighting fires in their home communities.
“I want to congratulate each of the 28 RFS members being presented a National Emergency Medal in recognition of their sustained and significant service throughout Black Summer.”
RFS Area Commander, Chief Superintendent Paul Simakoff-Ellims, said RFS volunteers and staff members should be proud of their dedication to protecting communities across NSW.
“I would like to take this opportunity to praise all our volunteers for their ongoing efforts each and every day, particularly when dealing with emergencies here on the Far South Coast,” Chief Superintendent Simakoff-Ellims said.
“We also thank the family, friends, employers and colleagues of all RFS volunteers. We know it takes their ongoing support and patience to assist and enable our volunteers to do what they do to save lives and property.”
