Dalmeny snowboarder, Valentino Guseli, has claimed gold at the Calgary Snow Rodeo in Canada over the weekend.

The teenage snowboarding prodigy had the highest scoring opening round run with 89.25 points, before improving on that with a score of 91.5 in his second run to record his first career victory in the halfpipe event.

When no other riders were able to match Guseli’s scores, the 18-year-old was able to complete a ‘victory lap’ in the third and final run celebrating with the large crowd.

“I really do like Canada,” Guseli said in his post race interview with FIS Snowboarding.

“The two wins I have had in a World Cup are in Canada, and I am super happy,” he said.

“The pipe was great, the snow was great, and the crowd was great.”

Guseli took some inspiration from F1 Driver Daniel Ricciardo to celebrate his second world cup win by doing a ‘shoey’ (at the 2:33.12 mark in the video below)

Behind Guseli on the podium were Japanese riders, Ruka Hirano in second place with a score of 88.25 points, and Shuichiro Shigeno on 86.75.

“My favourite thing is when there is a massive crowd out to support us,” Guseli said.

“Thank you for all the fans watching at home as well, I really appreciate it,”

“Today was a good day, I landed all of my runs, and I am happy.”

Guseli will head home to the South Coast next week.
