A blue green algae alert has been issued in the Bega Valley.
The council warning everyone to avoid contact with the water at Kisses Lagoon in Bega after testing confirmed the presence of the toxic bacteria.
The testing was conducted in the northern and southern parts of the lagoon.

The council said the detected species can potentially produce toxins harmful to people, pets, livestock and wildlife, including waterbirds and platypus.
