History has been created at the Narooma Oyster Festival on the weekend.
Tasmanian Zoe Jacobson crowned the 2026 Australian Oyster Shucking Champion…the first woman to win the title.
Zoe, who has only been shucking for seven years, will now head off to Ireland in September to represent our country at the World Championships.

Meantime…the entrants were weighed and the winner chosen.
A 2.6kg specimen from Bernie Connell was the biggest at the annual event in the Far South Coast town.
The result fell 400 grams short of Bernie’s biggest ever oyster.
The winner didn’t make near anyone’s mouth though…it’s headed back into the basket to grow some more big ones.
