An historic milestone and big dream come true for a former young Eurobodalla girl.
Holly Hebe, who grew up in Moruya as Holly Sweeney, until moving to Victoria in her teenage years has debuted her on the ARIA Chart for Australian Artists at Number One with her latest release Mood Ring.
Holly said she was getting ready to perform in Sydney when she found out the news.
“I was actually outside the Metro Theatre in Sydney just before my show and my manager got the call and he was kind of keeping it a secret for me until we sort of had everything sorted out for the show because it was a bit of a stressful day and then he told me and I was just, yeah, honestly, I just started crying,” Hebe said.
“It was like a massive, it was a massive sense of just like relief because we’ve been working so hard but also just so much excitement because it’s, yeah, really cool that it’s paid off,” she said.
She used to busk at the Moruya Markets on a Saturday morning.
Now she’s climbing above the likes of Tame Impala, the Kid Laroi, Andrew Farriss and Keith Urban.
Holly said she’s certainly come a long way since her days at St Peters in Broulee.
“I mean, I’ve always kind of knew, like, known that this is like, like music is what I want to do but yeah, kind of had no idea where it could take me,” she said.
“It is one of those things where you just got to ride the wave and be adaptable and versatile and also just be in it for the love of it.
“It’s so cool to think about just my busking days. I mean, I’m so grateful that I got to do that and such a good experience but definitely had no idea that I would be still at it, I guess, now, which is, yeah, really cool.
