Back in 2018 Santa Monica Studios soft rebooted its iconic video game series God of War. Plucking the Ghost of Sparta, Kratos, from his home land of Greece and placing him in the Norse world. The game received such critical and commercial success that it is currently heralded as one of the best PlayStation titles of all time and has received a sequel game titled God of War: Ragnarok. But that’s not all, the series has now been greenlit to receive a live-action tv adaptation from Prime Video.
Video game shows and movies have recently finally seen great success. For many years any video game property set to receive an adaptation for the screen was typically and horribly cursed. But with recent video games adapted into shows such as The Last of Us, Fallout, and Arcane seeing immense popularity and success perhaps it’s time to push the boundaries of live-action game adaptation.
The newest series to get the treatment will be God of War and for many years the discussion on who is to play the godly Ghost of Sparta has been a big question. Well today it was finally revealed that Ryan Hurst is set to take down the Norse gods as the iconic God of War himself, Kratos.
The news was announced via a post to social media from Prime Video and Santa Monica Studios, in which they shared an image of Kratos and Ryan Hurst together. For those unfamiliar with the games, fans are praising this casting choice whilst also celebrating that an actor from the games who already understands the property is set to play Kratos. Ryan Hurst has in fact played a key character in the most recent God of War: Ragnarok. In the most recent game Hurst was the voice of none other than Thor, the Norse god of thunder and one of the games main antagonists for Kratos.
