Wedding drinks lands Byron Bay man in court

A man has been sentenced after he was busted speeding and drink driving in Batemans Bay after attending a wedding.

Batemans Bay Local Court has been told Ronald Jason O’Neil from Byron Bay was pulled over by police after he was detected doing 98kmph in a 6- zone on the Princes Highway to two passengers in the vehicle.

The court heard O’Neil admitted to officers he had consumed seven full strength beers and two shots of jagermeister between 7 and 11pm before being stopped.

The 36-year-old carpenter by day and chef by night recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.124.

He’s been fined $900, banned from driving for three months and must have an interlock device fitted for the next 12 months.
