A Bega Valley tiny house on wheels (THOW) owner has turned up the heat on the council over moves to evict him from a local property.

Josh Heins and his partner Manu lived quietly on a property at Coolagolite for two years until the owners received an order in April with the threat of a penalty of up to $1-million if they didn’t remove the moveable dwelling.

After gaining over 21,000 signatures on a petition, Josh has taken to social media to call on residents to politely bombard the council with calls and emails demanding change.

He’s also written to Bega Shire Mayor Russell Fitzpatrick demanding he show some leadership when it comes to allowing tiny homes on wheels.

Last week the Mayor told us Council is facing unfair criticism for simply enforcing state government legislation. He called on Planning Minister Paul Scully to immediately amend current laws.

But Mr Heins said the current legislation clearly allows for THOW’s to exist without the need for a DA because they are legally considered a caravan but this is not a view shared by the council.

Mr Heins said the Mayor should focus on what can be done instead of demanding the minister change current laws.
