A Sunshine Bay woman, who chased down a motorcyclist in a ute through numerous streets of Batemans Bay before crashing into him, has been ordered off the road for three years.
Hayley Maree Gawthorne pleaded guilty in court yesterday to multiple charges including drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous and four counts of drive while suspended.
Through her lawyer, Hayley Maree Gawthorne told Batemans Bay Local Court it was a complete lapse in judgement to chase down a motorcyclist in her ute and knock him over last month.
Court papers reveal the pursuit went through nine different streets of the Bay and included swerving onto the wrong side of the road into the path of the motorcycle before later crashing into it, injuring the victim’s leg.
She told police she was ‘pissed off’ with him because of damage he had caused to her grandmothers radiator.
Despite a plea from her lawyer not to record a conviction Judge Doug Dick told disagreed.
He told Gawthorne she’s committed serious offence after serious offence, which all but one carry time in jail.
On top of the driving ban, Judge Dick also ordered her to pay $6400 in fines.
