Bega Chamber of Commerce believes the local community is in favour of bringing the bulldozers in and start again at the town’s old hospital site.
The organisation is lobbying the local state MP Michael Holland and the Premier Chris Minns for funding to redevelop the McKee Drive precinct after ten years of inactivity.
Chamber President John Watkin said it would be a perfect commitment for the State Election next year.

“As part of our business case we spoke to over 40 different organisations around Bega and we spoke to hundreds of individuals about our plan,” Mr Watkin said.
“One of the questions we asked in the survey was ‘Do you have any attachments to the existing hospital and without a word of a lie not a single person objected to it being bulldozed,” said.
“This site once played a vital role in caring for our community. Today, it stands unused while demand for housing, health services, education and cultural spaces continues to grow.
“Redeveloping the McKee Drive Precinct is about transforming an under-utilised asset into a place that supports Bega again, meeting real needs and creating new opportunities for connection and growth.
“From abandoned to activated, for the benefit of our whole community.”
