Batemans Bay Football Club has welcomed the completion of a major upgrade to their home base.
Eurobodalla Shire Council has spent $2.5 million on building a new amenities block including unisex changerooms for players and referees, lighting, drainage, and a new multi sport playing surface.
Rangers President Matt Findlay said the club hopes the council now maintains it.
“It all looks right it’s just the overuse of facilities in the area does kind of mix up the ground a bit so as long as we can keep on top of the maintenance then we wouldn’t have any we won’t have any future problems,” Mr Findlay said.
“I’m excited for council to be able to keep these maintained for all codes to participate,” he said.
Eurobodalla Shire Council’s Project Manager Chris Teague said they have installed new irrigation throughout the whole place and also a full lighting system that allows for a night time games as well as nighttime training so yeah a big full setup through here.
“We’ve increased spectator seating, and built four new unisex changerooms with amenities, and a storage shed,” Mr Teague said.
“For local clubs, it means better facilities to train and compete at, and for family and friends looking on from the sidelines it’s functional and comfortable. This is infrastructure that will be used week in, week out, and will support the Bay area for years to come,” he said.
The $2.58 million project was supported by $2.387 million from the NSW Government’s Office of Sport through the Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund, with Council contributing the balance.
Mayor Matt Hatcher said the upgrade would not of been possible with the generous support from the NSW Government.
“We’re grateful for that support – this was a much-needed upgrade that really benefits the community,” Mayor Hatcher said.
Member for Bega Dr Michael Holland MP said sprots bring communities together and the Hanging Rock upgrade exemplifies what can happen when government invests in the places people use daily.
“For local clubs and families, these upgrades mean better facilities to train, compete and enjoy sport,” Dr Holland said.
“This is an investment in grassroots sport and in the health, wellbeing and community connection for the people of Eurobodalla. I’m proud to support a project that will benefit local clubs and families for years to come.”
