More nurses on the way for two Far South Coast hospitals

A boost to the staffing levels of nurses are on the way at two Far South Coast hospitals.

The State Government announced on the weekend it would commence recruitment for the extra nurses to ensure the rostering of minimum staffing levels for every shift at South East Regional in Bega and Moruya Hospital.

The initiative comes at a time where nurses have been leaving the profession in droves due to the low pay rates and burnout from working excessive overtime.

Bega MP Dr Michael Holland said the Safe Staffing ratios rollout at South East Regional and Moruya District Hospitals will see more than 14 FTE nurses added to the emergency departments.
