Man charged over 6-year-old child’s death near Eden

A man will face court in the new year following the death of a young child when his ute collided with a tipper truck south of Eden.

The incident occurred back on May 13, 10 kilometres south of the town on Towamba Road at Nullica.

The driver, a-31-year-old man, and two girls – aged two and eight – in the same vehicle, suffered multiple injuries.

The driver was airlifted to Canberra Hospital while the two children were airlifted to Sydney Children’s Hospital.

The truck driver, aged 52, was taken to South-East Regional Hospital at Bega for mandatory testing and to be treated for the effects of shock.

The crash scene has been examined by officers attached to the Southern Region Crash Investigation Unit, who commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Following extensive inquiries, police attached to Crash Investigation Unit issued the 31-year-old man with a Court Attendance Notice for five offences:
– Dangerous drive occasioning death;
– Dangerous drive occasioning grievous bodily harm;
– Negligent drive occasioning death;
– Negligent drive occasioning grievous bodily harm; and
– Cause bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of motor vehicle.

The man’s drivers licence has been suspended.
