Political leaders on the Far South Coast have expressed concern over an alleged deliberate attack on Federal Independent MP Helen Haines.
The Member for Indi in north east Victoria was critically injured yesterday when struck by a four-wheel drive outside her electorate office in Wangaratta.
Eden Monaro MP Kristy McBain said her thoughts are with Helen, her family and her team after the distressing news.
In a social media post overnight Ms McBain wrote “Politics is meant to be about debating ideas. Whatever the motivation for this alleged attack was, this is not the way to advance civil discourse.”
Gilmore MP Fiona Phillips said she’s rocked and deeply saddened by the devastating attack.
Mrs Phillips said Dr Haines is genuinely the most beautiful person always supporting her community.
“There is no place for hate, threats, or acts of aggression, ever,” she said.
