A Far South Coast building site has been shut down following the discovery of human remains.
A human skull and several bones were uncovered by workers on the Main Street site.
South Coast Police District Acting Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Justin Marks said the site has been forensically examined.
“There’s been some excavation in the rear yard of the premises. During that time builders and excavators have located what they believed to be human remains,” Detective Inspector Marks said.
“They immediately stopped doing the excavation and contacted police,” he said.
Police have declared there are no suspicious circumstances.
“They were removed and taken to the forensic department in “Lidcombe” and it’s there where experts identified that the remains were historical indigenous remains,” Detective Inspector Marks said.
“They will be given to the local Aboriginal Lands Council and they’ll be replaced back to the area where they were found,” he said.
