A magistrate was about to quashed a ban on being able to apply for a drivers licence until 2038 until what he called “spanner in the works” was raised at the last minute.
38-year-old Gavin Bond fronted Batemans Bay Local Court to ask that his classification as ‘an habitual offender’ be removed from his record after going three years without offending.
Magistrate Michael Love told Bond he had a terrible record but the penalty was disproportionate given he hadn’t been offending recently.
He told him he was going to give him an opportunity and quash the habitual offender classification but then the police prosecutor intervened and told Magistrate Love there was an illicit drugs charge pending against Bond.
The matter has now been adjourned till November when the results of testing are returned to police.
