Government denies Clyde River modelling wrong

Transport for NSW has denied the modelling used to plan the upcoming dredging of the Clyde River is wrong.

A number of Surfside residents have told the Far South Coast Newsroom…the predicted relocation of sand towards their beach after the operation later this year will not occur.

The popular waterway will be dredged in the third quarter of this year with an estimated 30,000 cubic metres of sand to be relocated 600 metres from the suburb’s beachfront properties.

Many expressed this to Department officials during public info sessions in Batemans Bay over the last two days.

But Maritime Principal Manager, Dredging Dave Hopper said new data is regularly being added to the modelling.

Surfside residents fear losing their homes to tidal inundation with 12 metres of protective sand dunes disappearing in recent years.

The State Government said there’s was a great turnout at the sessions.

“There was a lot of interest in the maritime side of things and the possible benefits for beachfront Surfside homeowners,” Mr Hopper said.

Principal Manager, Dredging Dave Hopper says the final plans will now be adjusted after considering all the feedback they’ve received.
