A man has blamed his electric vehicle for making him drive almost 50km/ph over the speed limit on the Princes Highway.

Shafkat Nosharraf from Narellan Vale in Sydney’s south west has told Moruya Local Court “EV’s are very quite and it didn’t feel like I was going that fast.”

But his appeal to keep his licence fell on deaf ears. Judge Doug Dick told him that was not possible after being clocked at 149km/ph in a 100 zone.

Nosharraf asked if there was any other option and could he keep some demerit points.

Judge Dick told him “No I explained it. I have no control over demerit points.”

Nosharraf represented himself before the court and stated he needed to keep his licence for work but Judge Dick told him I can only dismiss it or punish you.

“I can’t dismiss it. I wouldn’t be doing my job if I did.

“You can still drive home but next Friday you will be suspended from driving for three months and fined $1100.”
