Police have revealed the weapon they are looking for in the stabbing death of a man in Bega last month.

The body of 43-year-old Gordon Kessey found in a park on East Street along with a critically injured Benjamin Smith.

A double-edged dagger was the subject of a search at Glebe Wetlands last week, just down the street from where Kessey died.

South Coast Police District Commander, Superintendent Darren Brand said we believe a small doubled edged dagger was used in the commission of the homicide.

“We would encourage anyone with information about the small double edged dagger to come forward and speak with police,” he said.

“Is it so far a common weapon? No but edged weapons are commonly used in these type of offences.”

The South Coast Police District Commander refused to rule out a reported link between the killing and a violent home invasion at Tomakin with weeks of other.

“The investigation is broad and all encompassing and there’s multiple people involved,” he said.

Superintendent Brand moved to reassure the community they have nothing to fear in connection to these crimes.

“Can I just reassure the community there is no information at this stage to suggest that the wider community is at risk in relation to this,” he said.
