It’s taken a North Narooma man almost 12 hours to get a deadly snake out of his ute after it slittered over his feet while driving.
Brendan Warby was travelling to Moruya with his daughter yesterday when he felt the red bellied black crawl across his feet.
“My first thought was to get of the road. My feet were in the air so I half put the hand brake on and just let the car gradually come to a stop so I could get it off the road enough, safely and get out,” Mr Warby said.
“It was about four foot long and pretty fat. A bit scary!” he said.
“I was only wearing thongs. I think I’ll have to start wearing jeans and shoes now.”
The local Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA) Narooma Senior Deputy Captain then called his fellow colleagues, who are trained in snake catching to come to the rescue.
“It got in under the dashboard which made it hard. We tried the air-conditioning you know because snakes obviously don’t like the cold then we tried a bit of fly spray just to fumigate it a bit but that didn’t work,” said.
After a few hours of trying Brendan decided to just drive home and wait for it to come out.

“I drove the car home snake and all and just left the doors open with a bit of powder on the jams to see if it exists the car,” Mr Warby said.
After seeing no movement late in the day…he lit up a small fire and smoked the deadly snake out before it was safely relocated by his VRA colleagues.
“There were two options. Find the snake and remove it or sell the ute.”
Mr Warby also revealed this all happened just days before he is due to undertake a snake handling course for the VRA.
“Yeah I’m booked in for the course this Saturday,” he said.
