A young man killed in a horrific double fatality near Nelligen last weekend was before the courts on a serious driving charge.
22-year-old Mirko Tomicic from Nelligen and a 59-year-old Canberra man both pronounced dead at the scene on the Kings Highway on Sunday afternoon.
We can reveal Tomicic had only appeared in Batemans Bay Local Court just seven days earlier, charged with drug driving.
Court documents show it was the second time he was had been arrested for the same offence.
During the 22-year-old’s appearance on Monday last week he was assessed for then referred to participate in the MERIT diversion course.
The course allows those in the justice system to learn about the impacts drugs and alcohol can have on driving and give them a chance to reduce their sentences if successfully completed.
Tomicic was also sentenced to an 18 months Intensive Corrections Order in 2022 for attacking a man with a tomahawk at Surf Beach.
