A dispute has erupted between a Coolagolite couple and Bega Valley Shire Council over the placement of a small tiny house on wheels.

Josh Heins and his partner Manu have been renting space on a local property for the past two years while they save to buy a conventional home.

The property’s owner told by the council to get rid of the movable dwelling within 21 days or face a penalty of up to $1-million plus $10,000 a day for each day it hasn’t been removed.

Mr Heins has called on Bega Valley Shire Council to impose a moratorium on the eviction of tiny houses on wheels until State Government regulations are clarified.

A petition on the issue has already gained over 2220 signatures since the weekend.

Mr Heins said the letter from council cited the Environmental and Planning Assessment Act of NSW in their letter.

“Our understanding is that tiny homes on wheels as a moveable dwelling come under the Caravan Parks Manufactured Homes and Moveable Dwellings Regulation,” he said.

“That regulation wasn’t mentioned at all in the letter from council.”
