Bail fail for serial drink driver after lodging appeal against the severity of his sentence

A serial offender jailed over three drink driving offences within quick succession has failed to convince a Magistrate to release him on bail.

Last month 62-year-old Andrew Hammond was sentenced to a maximum 14 months in jail.

Yesterday his lawyer Samantha Henry told Batemans Bay Local Court her client had lodged an appeal with the District Court against the severity of the penalty handed down to him.

But Magistrate Doug Dick told Hammond, who appeared by via video link from prison, I have some bad news for you today. I’m not granting you bail. You have breach court orders in the past.

A date for the appeal is still to be set.
