NAB Moruya to permanently close from June

The National Australia Bank (NAB) branch in Moruya will permanently cease it’s current operations from Wednesday the 12th of June 2024.

NAB Retail Customer Executive, Karen Hurley, said they made the difficult decision to close the NAB branch in Moruya (at 61 Vulcan Street) because fewer customers are using it for their banking.

“While we understand the community will be disappointed, this decision was made after looking closely at the number of customers using this branch and the increased use of digital banking in the area,” Hurley said.

“Just as they’re using online government services to complete their tax or a Medicare claim, locals in Moruya are increasingly choosing to bank digitally because it’s more convenient,” she said.

“Today, more than 93% of transactions in Australia are taking place online, and this is increasing.

Batemans Bay (24kms), Ulladulla (70km) and Bega (88km) are the nearest NAB branch’s for Moruya customers though locals are being encouraged to deposit and withdraw cash and utilise some other services from the Moruya Post office at 15 Church Street, with the NAB ATM set to go as well.

“NAB’s digital options, and those at Australia Post have expanded and are designed to support people,” a NAB spokesperson said.

“You can withdraw cash, deposit cash and cheques, and check your account balance at participating post offices.”

“The team at the Moruya post office are ready to help NAB customers with their day to day banking through our Bank@Post service. Bank@Post is a significant investment for NAB which brings the convenience of banking services to more than 3,400 locations nationally in partnership with Australia Post.”

There will be no job losses as part of this change and the branch team have all been offered other roles across the bank.

The closure comes just over a year after the bank’s decision to close it’s Narooma Branch on the 8th of December 2022.
