The South Coast has claimed the life of another person while rock fishing.
A woman has died after being struck by a wave and washed into the ocean while undertaking the dangerous activity 25km north of Batemans Bay last night.
Emergency services were called to North Durras Beach at 6 o’clock after reports of two people in water.
The large response included police officers, ambulance paramedics, firefighters, surf life saving and marine rescue volunteers.
“We were informed that a 39-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were rock fishing at the location when a wave struck the woman knocking her into the surf,” a statement from police said.
“The male entered the surf to retrieve the woman but was unable to do so and was washed back to shore.”
A passing boat located the woman. The crew removed her from the water and returned to shore where CPR was performed. Despite their efforts she was unable to be revived and died at the scene.
Police say neither the woman or man were wearing safety equipment.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
There were three lives claimed on the Far South Coast in 2025 after rock fisherman were struck by waves and washed into the sea.
Those deaths occurred at Tathra and Eden.
There were also two lives lost by rock fishermen in the Shoalhaven in January this year at Gerroa between Nowra and Kiama.
