A new local racing car team will make its competitive debut this weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park.
South Coast Motor Racing will spend the next three days racing in the Radical Cup Australia, which is part of the Shannons Speed Series.
Team Principal and lead driver Julian Poulter says he’ll be taking to the track in a Radical SR3 RSX.
“It’s a 600kg, 230-plus horsepower, aero-loaded little missile that looks like it escaped from Le Mans and has the ability to make considerably more expensive machinery look rather silly,” Mr Poulter said.
“Based in Ulladulla, with team members and supporters spread along the Far South Coast from Narooma to Bermagui, SCMR has deliberately set out to build a race team with a distinctly South Coast personality,” he said.
“From Wollongong to Eden, South Coast people are a bit of a tribe. We know we live in one of the best
places in Australia, so we thought it deserved a race team of its own and not just any race team.
“Radical SR3s are purpose-built prototype-style racing cars. They weigh roughly half as much as many
road-going performance cars and generate enormous aerodynamic downforce, allowing them to carry
extraordinary speed through corners.
“They’re basically rocket ships with steering wheels.”
The race starting today will be televised live on Foxtel and the Kayo App.
