The latest quarterly hospital performance report paints a grim picture for some patients attending our local hospital emergency departments.
The numbers provided by the Bureau of Health Information found waiting times are increasing at South East Regional, Moruya and Batemans Bay hospitals.
Batemans Bay Hospital
The number of emergency department attendances was down this quarter however around 80% of patients started their treatment on time in the emergency department.
That’s up slightly compared with the same time last year, and well above the state average of 68%.
Patients did spend a bit longer in the ED. With the median time from arrival to leaving the ED at Batemans Bay, up 22 minutes to 2 hours and 41 minute. However, this was still well below the state result of 3 hours and 50 minutes.
Moruya Hospital
The number of ED attendances was relatively stable in the April to June 2026 quarter.
Around 74% of patients started their treatment on time in the ED, and that’s stable compared with the same time last year, but well above the state average of 68%.
Although, patients did spend a little bit longer in ED at Moruya with a median time from arrival to leaving the ED, up 9 minutes to 3 hours and 42 minutes.
The data covering April to June this year shows one in ten patients at the Moruya ED waited 24 hours and 125 minutes before being admitted and treated or transferred to another hospital.
South East Regional Hospital in Bega
The number of emergency at depart attendances was down 11% in the April to June 2026 quarter.
76% of patients started their treatment on time in the ED, and that’s up compared to the same time last year, and well above the state average. However, similar to the other hospitals in the region, patients did spend a bit longer in the ED, with the median time from arrival to leaving up 28 minutes to 3 hours and 34 minutes.
