Group 16 has launched an investigation into the breakout of a brawl on the field at the conclusion of the Group 16 First Grade Grand Final at Bega Rec Ground.

Verbal abuse between opposing fans quickly descended into pushes then punches and an all out brawl with at least one player hit in an unprovoked attack and a fan knocked to the ground and repeatedly punched and kicked.

I saw a player from the opposite team and a trainer move in to try to protect the man on the ground while others including Group 16 President, a long time referee, Ray Inskip tried to separate everybody.

He said the behaviour is not acceptable.

“I think we need to look at the fencing so the crowd can’t get on the field at both ends and I think that’s something we’ll look at for next year,” Mr Inskip said.

“We will look at the video and see what happens, if anything can happen but next year I think we’ll have to fence it,” he said.
