The Far South Coast’s Olympic Gold Medalist Cooper Woods is back home on local ground.
The Pambula skier flew into Merimbula Airport yesterday afternoon to big reception from family, friends, school kids and other supporters after arriving home from the Winter Olympic Games in Italy.
There were repurposed beer signs and hand made banners from gold cardboard.
He proudly showed off his gold medal when entering the terms to loud cheers and renditions of ‘Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, oi, oi, oi’.
Woods was shocked at the turn out as he exited the plane after travelling back from the Winter Olympic Games over in Italy.
“You guys are so awesome. You have no idea but I felt the love all the way from Italy,” Cooper told the assembled crowd.
“I actually live in the best community ion Australia. I can’t wait to celebrate and rip in,” he said.
Cooper then held his medal up in the air and said ” This one is for you guys. It’s for everyone.”
An official community ‘Welcome Home’ party will be held for Cooper late today at Pambula Sporting Fields from 4:30.
Meanwhile fellow local Winter Olympics snowboarder Valentino Guseli has made a quieter return home.
He will be at his family’s nursery and cafe in Bodalla, Nonna’s Garden, tomorrow between 11 and 1 to catch up with supporters.
