Accused local paedophile facing ‘life’ in prison

A Far South Coast court has been told a man accused of a large number of child sex offences is facing jail for the term of his natural life, if convicted.

We are not allowed to name the man who is accused of a total of 26 charges including 16 of a serious sexual nature.

The alleged offender was formally refused bail yesterday when the matter was mentioned in Batemans Bay Local Court.

Court documents show he is charged with the following offences:
1 x Intentionally sexually touch;
4 x Aggravated sexual intercourse with a child 14-16;
4 x Aggravated sexual intercourse with a child under 10;
5 x Intentionally sexually touch 10-16;
1 x Aggravated incite child 10-16 to do a sexual act to them;
1 x Possess child abuse material;
4 x Stalk / intimidate intend fear physical harm;
2 x Intentionally choke etc a person without consent;
1 x Knowingly contravene an AVO; and
3 x Possess prohibited drug.

A lawyer for the DPP told the court they had elected to take over the prosecution from police.

The case will return to court on March 23.
