Embarrassment for NSW Fisheries after dropping a multi-million-dollar case against a group of Walbunja men they accused of illegally catching and selling abalone.
A two-week hearing in Nowra Local Court has been told the state government agency collected over 200 hours of undercover footage and recorded countless phone conversations as part of a joint investigation with police.
The seven men were accused of catching and trafficking over 1300 of the popular shellfish between September 2023 and January 2024.
But yesterday after being challenged about how the seven men were identified from over 500 metres away, the prosecution suddenly dropped the case.
