Fingers are crossed along the Far South Coast that the weather bureau is right on the money for the coming days.
Significant rain is being forecast from late today through into next week which will be a Godsend for firefighters battling blazes in Wadbilliga National Park and Nadgee Nature Reserve.
RFS Far South Coast Public Information Officer Nathan Barnden said incident controllers are still preparing like it won’t happen…just in case.
“Those rains are looking promising but we want to make sure it falls in the right place and it makes the impact that it needs to on the fireground,” Mr Barden said.
“We’re still going to be out here, even after significant rain, for quite an extended period of time,” he said.
“Firefighters from the RFS, Forestry New South Wales and New South Wales National Parks will be on this fire for a number of weeks after this, even with rain.
“We have to really make sure that our crews get in there and turn over every, every burnt log that’s near an edge and we make sure that we do the hard work, uh that work through the boots on the ground to put this fire out.”
Meanwhile the National Parks and Wildlife Service continue to work on extinguishing the Endeavour Moor Fire within the Nadgee Nature Reserve south of Eden.
The blaze is currently categorised as being controlled.
The RFS also issued an alert about more smoke over the Far South Coast from the fires in north east Victoria.
