We’re being warned to expect increased smoke over parts of the Far South Coast for the next few days.

The smoke being produced by the Brassknocker and Endeavour Moor Fires as well as several just across the border in Victoria.

Despite this firefighters are hoping the milder conditions will allow them to get on top of the blazes with backburning now underway.

A Herculean effort by firefighters late last week prevented he Brassknocker Fire from impacting parts of the Far South Coast during the most dangerous conditions we’ve seen so far this season.

The blaze is just 20 kilometres from Cobargo and according to the most recent update it now covers over 2300 hectares of bushland.

RFS Far South Coast Public Information Officer Marty Webster said it was a monumental effort by all involved.

“We had over 100 local firefighters on the ground supported by aviation and a lot of heavy plant in there as well,” Mr Webster said.

The Rural Fire Service also said the Endeavour Moor Fire in Nadgee Nature Reserve south of Eden, is not threatening any life or property.

“It’s a long way from any built assets but we do acknowledge there are significant environmental and cultural assets in that part of the world,” Mr Webster said.

“National Parks have been working to limit the spread of that fire to tie it back into the lake there and they seem to be having good success,” he said.
