A debate about changes to local pet laws has been deferred by Eurobodalla Council after a big reaction to the proposed changes.
The changes would see limits put in place on the number of animals residents could have, in certain circumstances.
The draft Local Orders Policy – Keeping of Animals attracted 40 submissions mostly against the reforms.
The Council blaming what it refers to as “media pot stirring inciting social media hype for the delay.
Council at pains to point out the draft policy does not set general restrictions on the number of pets that can be kept in normal circumstance.
“The restrictions would only apply where legitimate problems are identified such as noisy animals disturbing neighbours or animal welfare issues.
“Deferring this policy’s approval gives council time to thoroughly weigh up the submissions we received from the community.”
