The clean up continues across the Far South Coast today following several days of challenging weather conditions.

In the Eurobodalla Shire council staff are assessing the damage with many working through the night with the SES and Police to keep the community safe.

The Council’s interim General Manager Mark Ferguson said such heavy rain, destructive winds and damaging surf were always going to present problems.

“We had ten overflows at our sewage pump stations and they’ve been signed posted,” Mr Ferguson said.

“Council staff will be inspecting our sporting ovals to see if they can be reopened for this weekend but I think that’s probably on the border of optimism,” he said.

“I think there are no shortage of potholes. Many of our low lying roads have been inundated with rain therefore we’ll have to look at how we repair those.

“I would be encouraging the community to drive carefully and watch out for potholes.”

Council crews have been out across the Bega Valley cleaning up.

They’ve already cleared several fallen trees and are now inspecting roads, clearing drain debris, and checking for damage to help prioritise next steps.

All current road closures are listed on the NSW Government’s Live Traffic portal and are being updated as conditions change.

Merimbula and Tathra Wharves have both been closed due to large swells, along with the Tathra headland walk. Coastal erosion areas have also been closed and will be assessed when safe.
