Police Minister Yasmin Catley has revealed the new Bega Police Station will cost taxpayers an extra $4-million following the collapse of the first builder, increased material costs and rain delays.
The Minister inspected the partially constructed facility yesterday with Bega MP Michael Holland ahead of the expected opening in September.

She said the new $23-million price tag will be money well spent.
The minister inspected the facility on the corner of Hill and Auckland Streets yesterday.

“This new building will provide outstanding policing for the Bega Valley Shire and surrounds,” she said.
““The new Bega Police Station is critical to ensuring local officers and specialist units continue to keep the community safe and drive down crime.
“I want to thank the community and police for their patience during construction. Unforeseen delays have meant the station will open later than first anticipated.
“Our police go above and beyond to serve their local community. It is our job to ensure they have the infrastructure, resources and support to get the job done and that’s exactly what the Minns Labor Government is doing.”

The region’s most senior police officer has welcomed progress on the new station.
Southern Region Commander, Assistant Commissioner Joe Cassar said the new high tech forensics facility will lead to a quicker response for the local community when it comes to solving the more serious crimes.
