Surfside residents have appealed directly to the State Government to help them protect their beachfront homes from being washed away.
The homeowners on Wyamba Parade have been crying out for years for action to address the loss of 12 metres of protective sand dunes at the back of the properties.
Four of them drove up to Ulladulla for a chance to talk one on one with Regional Transport Minister Jenny Aitchison after a Community Cabinet meeting held yesterday afternoon in the town.
They discussed their concerns with the Minister about a new ten-year dredging plan she announced earlier this month for the Clyde River in Batemans Bay.
Craig Lyttle said he asked the Minister to consider changing some parts of the plan.
“Putting the sand from the dredging 600 metres from the shore is not good enough,” he said.
“We really need to have the dune rebuilt at the back of our houses where we have lost about 12 metres in recent years. It was put there when the suburb was first built. It needs to be rebuilt and they could use the dredging material to do this.”
Another Wyamba Parade resident Ian Laverock pointed out to the Minister the amount of time they have spent trying over the years to get some action.
“She did seem sympathetic and said she would take it away,” he said.
“She took our names and numbers and said she would get back to us, which I am keen to see.”
