June 7, 2022 10:16 pm in by

Apple has unveiled a stack of new features coming in its iOS 16 updates for your mobile device including a more personalized lock screen and the ability to edit your text messages.

Lock Screen

The change to the lock screen takes a lot from the widget features on your Apple Watch. Using a special new multilayered effect your photo images are now placed in front of the time on the lock screen, giving the appearance of depth and integration. You can also choose the colours of the date and time giving you more options in designing a look and feel for your device that is more intuitive.

Notifications have been redesigned to roll up from the bottom of the screen so that you always have a clear view of your lock screen design but also don’t miss anything important coming in.

You can also have more than one lock screen and switch between them with a swipe.

Updates to Messages

We’ve all been in that awkward position where you’ve sent a message to the wrong person or spell check has changed a word in your text to make it sound like something rude or crude. The new iOS 16 allows you to edit or recall a recently sent message. So next time you message your friend Rick and accidentally put a “P” in front of it you’ll be able to edit it quickly or just delete the message altogether using “undo send”.  This is an absolute game-changer for anyone who’s ever sent a regretful text and that has to be all of us.

The final update to messages is that you can mark a thread as unread so you can come back to it later. Also handy for when you are going through your partner’s phone and covering your tracks.

Photos

A really powerful tool in photos is the ability to pull the image of something out of a photo and share it in your apps. The AI allows you to tap and hold the subject in an image and separate it from the background to place it in apps like messages. The visual look up feature also lets you translate signs and writing that is in another language.

Updates to Wallet

The need to carry around a physical wallet is soon becoming a thing of the past with the growth of the Wallet App on your Apple Device. The app has just added features like Pay Later, Order tracking and the ability to use your ID in-app to verify your age.

If you use Apple Car Play to listen to iHeartRadio then you will love the new features coming to the device. Modern cars with integrated screens on the dashboard will now have more options to customize widgets so that you have access to weather and music controls. It’s crazy futuristic, and cars that support the dashboard integration are expected to be announced this year.

Work-Life Balance

It’s easy to lose yourself in work when you are at home and should be with your family. Apple recognize this and developed “Focus” that has had a major update. It now connects to the lock screen and lets you tie in your wallpaper and widgets to a particular focus. This means you can shut out those emails and notifications and get back to the things that matter when you are at home.
