Merimbula boaters hoping for power of the dragon

The Merimbula Dragon Boating team are joining forces with the Moruya team and heading up to Canberra today (Friday November 26).

Rather than competing as either Merimbula or Moruya, the teams will compete as a south coast region at this weekend's regatta.

President and Coach of the Merimbula Water Dragons, Gillian McCallum said she's hoping the weather holds out.

"We're heading up today and it might be a little bit wet but we've got 15-16 people travelling up from Merimbula and we're joining up with the Nature Coast team from the Moruya area and they have similar numbers," Ms McCallum said.

"We race in women's teams, so that has 10 women and so we're competing in that but there's a number of different races," she said.

"It's a fairly new crew that we're taking up and we're concentrating on this weekend, it's our first regatta in quite some time, so we're hoping to have a whole heap of fun and race well."
